HAMISH Greenslade knew his classmates and teachers were behind him in his fight against cancer as he watched hair tumble to the floor of Prince Alfred College's hall.

A dozen Prince Alfred College students and teachers shaved their heads for the World's Greatest Shave on Friday, March 22.

They braved the clippers to support Hamish, 12, who was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma - an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma - in January.

"It was really funny to watch," Hamish says.

"It's great - they're supporting me really well.

"My family and the whole school have been really very supportive."

After Hamish's diagnosis, his older brother Jack, 14, and friends Cameron Young and Brodie Henderson sprung into action with a plan to fundraise for cancer research.

Jack is determined to raise as much money as possible to help find a cure for cancer and support his brother.

"I just wanted to do whatever I could for Hamish and help out as much as I could to fundraise for research," Jack says.

"Hopefully one day it (cancer) will be put to a stop."

Cameron, 14, jumped at the chance to shave his head to support Hamish.

"We had nothing to lose but our hair," Cameron says.

"I'm very proud of our efforts."

Year 7 student Brodie is also committed to the cause.

"Hamish was one of my best friends in Year 6 and I wanted to do something," Brodie, 12, said.

"I didn't expect us to do anywhere near as well as we have."

PAC has raised more than $30,000 for cancer research, including $13,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation through the World's Greatest Shave.

Hamish underwent his final round of chemotherapy last week.
