Road watch: Burst water main slows flow

A BURST water main at Plympton is likely to cause delays for motorists this morning.

Nick Green from the Australian Traffic Network said the burst water main on Marion Rd was causing traffic to build near the Cross Rd intersection.

He said diversions were in place at Galway Ave.

Mr Green said Main South Rd was also starting to get busy on the run down to South Rd at the Sturt Rd intersection.

Road watch: Burst water main at Medindie

A BURST water main has closed one lane westbound on Robe Tce at Medindie.

Nick Green from the Australian Traffic Network said the water main had burst on Robe Tce west of Northcote Tce.

Mr Green also said the Southern Expressway was starting to get busy at Majors Rd, but all other roads were running smoothly for the first day of the working week.

Hiding man in hot water over theft

A MAN has been arrested after he was found in possession of a hot water service at Morphett Vale early this morning.

The man, 41, of Kidman Park, was seen allegedly attempting to hide behind a billboard on Main South Rd just after 1am.

Police say that, after speaking with the man, they discovered he was in possession of a new gas hot water system. A further investigation revealed a hot water service was missing from a construction site nearby.

The man has been charged with theft and going equipped after police found a screwdriver.

He has been bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court at a later date.

Water cost savings for Mawson Lakes

THOUSANDS of residents in Mawson Lakes will be charged less for recycled water from July 1.

SA Water charges residents connected to the suburb's "purple pipe" network $2.59/kl for recycled water.

That compares with an average of $3.45/kl for mains water.

The charge for recycled water will be reduced to $2.18/kl from July to encourage more people to use it.

A spokesman for SA Water said recycled water used to be cheaper than mains water, however, "increases in potable water prices over the last four years" had increased the price.

He said that after July, recycled water would be the cheapest form of water supplied by SA Water.

Mawson Lakes resident Greg Wood said the price reduction was a little too late.

"Before we moved into Mawson Lakes we were told by the agent that recycled water was cheaper than mains water and you would have the perception that it would be," the 58 year old said.

"So we were pretty shocked when we received our first water bill after moving into the house more than 18-months ago to actually find that recycled water cost more than normal water.

"I think it's disgusting because it's an inferior product and we have no choice but to use it because it is plumbed to our toilets and outside - there isn't the option to use mains water outside."

SA Water supplies Mawson Lakes residents with recycled water using water from its Bolivar's waste water treatment plant and mixing it with Salisbury Council's recycled water.

Salisbury Council supplies SA Water with recycled water from it wetlands network for 61c a kilolitre.

A spokeswoman for Salisbury Council said it had no control over how SA Water set prices.
