'Treasure trove' uncovered in police raid

A TREASURE trove of allegedly stolen goods has been uncovered at Two Wells thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip off.

Police went to a property on Williams Road, Two Wells about 8pm last night and discovered the valuable stash of goods that included a caravan, a ski boat and trailer, three motorbikes, two trailers a ride-on lawn mower, four car engines and a 13-tonne Isuzu truck.

All of the property was seized by police.

A 46-year-old man from Two Wells has been reported for unlawful possession and he will appear in court at a later date.

Police will make further inquiries and check stolen property reports to establish ownership of the items.

Police dog helps sniff out would-be thieves

TWO people have been arrested after allegedly trespassing on a Woodville construction site, intending to steal cable and copper piping overnight.

Security officers saw the intruders on surveillance cameras at the construction site on Woodville Rd about 1.45am and alerted police.

Police searched the area with a police dog and found a woman on the site and a man in a nearby street.

The man and woman, aged 27 and 46, of Seaton, were arrested and charged with being unlawfully on premises and theft.

They were both bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police defend rewards for gun dobbers

SA Police Commissioner Gary Burns has defended rewards of up to $10,000 being offered to people who provide information that leads to major gun seizures.

Police have faced "dead ends" while investigating gun crimes in recent months because of a reluctance by many to provide information but officers would use any means necessary to take guns off the streets, Mr Burns said on ABC radio this morning.

"We're coming up against a lot of dead ends because of the nature of the people involved - not on all of these occasions but a large number of the occasions," he said. "You do have criminals dob in criminals - that's the nature of informants. We're only happy to take the firearms off the street."

"I think we average about 280 firearm related offences every year so we've started this year in a manner that obviously we wouldn't want which causes us a lot of concern," he said. "I think we've had about 18 (shootings) - we had about 16 up to the end of January or beginning of February and we've had another couple since. So it has slowed off a bit but one is too many."

Man arrested after police chase through suburbs

A MAN who led police on a pursuit through the western suburbs has been arrested.

It is alleged the man was spotted speeding in a Mitsubishi four-wheel drive along Henley Beach Rd, about noon, when he collided with another car.

The driver allegedly fled the scene despite police pursuing him, until he stopped at Counter Ave, Lockleys, and was arrested.

No one was injured in the crash.

The man of no fixed address, 36, was charged with multiple driving offences, including engaging in a police pursuit, aggravated driving without due care and endangering life.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
