Man arrested after robbery attempt

A GEELONG man has been arrested after a robbery attempt at a Mount Gambier service station early this morning.

A 24-year-old man from Geelong has been arrested after an attempted robbery at a Service Station in Mount Gambier early this morning.

About 4am, a man walked into the Commercial Rd station, told staff he had a knife and demanded money.

No knife was seen and when staff refused to hand over cash the would-be robber fled.

Within minutes, police found a man allegedly hiding down the side of a nearby house.

The 24-year-old was refused police bail.

Man faces court after shots fired

A MAN will appear in court today after a domestic dispute at Salisbury Heights last night where two shots were fired and two people were assaulted.

Police were called to Dwyer Ct, about 8.45pm, after a man entered a house and allegedly fired two shots from a shotgun.

The occupants - a man and a woman - were not struck, but the intruder, who was known to the couple, assaulted both before running from the scene, police said.

The offender then ran to the intersection of Main North Rd and Blacktop Rd at Hillbank, where he allegedly carjacked a motorist.

He drove to Craigmore where police were able to arrest him after a short search.

The Riverland man, 41, was charged with several offences including aggravated serious criminal trespass, aggravated assault causing harm, two counts of acts to endanger life, possessing an unregistered firearm, being unlicensed to possess a firearm and aggravated robbery.

He was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital with minor injuries after being bitten by the police dog.

The man was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court.

Police said further charges could be laid.

Two men airlifted to hospital after Barossa crash

TWO men have been airlifted to hospital following separate crashes in the Barossa Valley this afternoon.

One man was taken to Adelaide by helicopter with critical injuries after a two car smash at Cockatoo Valley just after 12.30pm.

A second person suffered minor injuries in the crash on Balmoral Rd and has been taken to hospital by road.

A man in his 20's was airlifted from the scene of a crash on Barossa Valley Way at Lyndoch after his car collided with a tree about 12.45pm

Police have asked motorists to avoid these areas if possible, as delays are expected.

Drivers should also be aware of slippery and greasy road conditions due to rain.

Arrest after hospital car theft

POLICE have arrested a woman who allegedly stole a car to drive herself home from hospital this morning.

Police were called to Whyalla Hospital about 5am after a staff member's handbag and keys were stolen.

After a brief investigation, police went to the home address of a suspect and allegedly arrived to find her getting out of the stolen car.

Police said the 33-year-old Whyalla Stuart woman was arrested and is expected to face charges of theft, illegal use and driving while unlicensed.

She will be bailed to appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court at a later date.

Woman charged after 12 guns found

POLICE have charged a Glenelg North woman over the alleged discovery of 12 firearms at her home.

Crime Gangs Task Force detectives searched the woman's home on Friday and found 10 mixed-calibre single-shot lever-action rifles, including a .303, as well as two air rifles, police said.

Checks on the guns found four of the rifles had been stolen from a house break-in at Parkside in 2001, three of them were not recorded and the others had serial numbers that could not be traced.

All of the firearms will be further tested and analysed.

The woman, 39, was arrested and charged with 12 counts of possessing a firearm without a licence, possessing an unregistered firearm and possessing insecure firearms.

She was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court next month.

Arrest after stolen car crashed

A REYNELLA man will face court after being arrested for crashing a stolen car in Adelaide's north overnight.

Police say the stolen blue Mazda hatchback driving quickly along Waterloo Corner Rd about 3.20am and followed the car.

The car continued along Purling Ave at Edinburgh, where it hit a gutter and stopped.

A 35-year old man was arrested at the scene and charged with offences including illegal use of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and driving disqualified.

He will appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.

Man arrested after police chase through suburbs

A MAN who led police on a pursuit through the western suburbs has been arrested.

It is alleged the man was spotted speeding in a Mitsubishi four-wheel drive along Henley Beach Rd, about noon, when he collided with another car.

The driver allegedly fled the scene despite police pursuing him, until he stopped at Counter Ave, Lockleys, and was arrested.

No one was injured in the crash.

The man of no fixed address, 36, was charged with multiple driving offences, including engaging in a police pursuit, aggravated driving without due care and endangering life.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Jane Reilly quits after 37 years

Channel 10's Jane Reilly talks about coping with grief a month after her husband Barry Noble died.

AFTER 37 years of bringing the weather to Adelaide viewers, Network Ten's Jane Reilly has announced she will retire from television in April.

"After working for 37 years full time on Adelaide TV, much of the time here with my friends at TEN, I have decided to retire from television,"  Reilly told adelaidenow

"It's been a very hard decision to make, as I absolutely love working for Network Ten and I have many loyal fans, who I know will be surprised by this announcement."

The decision came earlier in the year after accepting a role on the FIVEaa breakfast show, alongside Keith Conlon.

Reilly told viewers that she had been enjoying the new challenges that radio presented, and relished the opportunity to give it her primary focus.

"Since the beginning of the year Ive been working in radio and Ive decided that this is the direction I want my future career to take. I will always see myself as part of the Ten family, almost like a volunteer ambassador, and I'm grateful that management have been so supportive of my decision."

Network Ten's Adelaide general manager, Frank Filosi, said Reilly had an amazing career in television and was a much loved institution within Adelaide media.

"We wish her all the success with her new career and look forward to continuing our close relationship with Jane in the future," he said.

Reporter Kate Freebairn will join the Ten News presenting team alongside Rebecca Morse and Mark Aiston, when Reilly leaves in April.

Man seriously hurt after being hit by car

A PEDESTRIAN has suffered potentially life threatening injuries after being hit by a car at Maslin Beach.

The man was struck on Commercial Rd, north of Maslin Beach Rd, about 9pm.

He was taken to Flinders Medical Centre.
