THE Tigers want to play five reserves games under lights at Glenelg Oval this season, as a curtain raiser to its SANFL night matches.

The club has applied to Holdfast Bay Council's Development Assessment Panel (DAP) to clarify a court imposed condition limiting the number of night games to five each year.

In 2011, the Environment, Resources and Development (ERD) Court approved four 25m high light poles at the Glenelg East oval, so long as they were on for only five nights a footy season and turned off by 10.20pm.

The club wants formal clarification from the DAP it can play reserves games under lights and still meet the court conditions.

It is not seeking to change the times the lights are on.

A council report said because the court order does not restrict when the lights can be turned on, it was assumed the court had no planning concerns related to this.

It said the club played some reserves games partly under lights last season, prior to league games.

The council's DAP will consider the matter on Wednesday, March 27.

One resident has asked to make a representation against the application.

The Tiger's proposal for new lights divided the Bay community when it was first proposed in early 2011.

Fans were excited about hosting football matches under lights while nearby residents were concerned night games would lead to parking, noise and vandalism problems.

After Holdfast Bay Council approved the lights, a group of 19 residents appealed the decision in the ERD Court, an action which took 11 months to resolve.

The ERD Court finally approved the lights, allowing night games to be played in 2012.
