Wild winds hit South Australia

WILD winds are expected to continue this morning in Adelaide as severe weather sweeps across South Australia.

Overnight a trough moved through SA, caused by an intense low pressure system which is now south of Kangaroo Island, moving eastward.

This is producing the strong winds across the state, with gale force blows forecast along the SA coast, and storm-force winds to hit the Lower South East .

Storms hit Adelaide about 2am ahead of the main gusty change, which came through just before 5am.

At 8.30am, winds were gusting to 65km/h at Adelaide Airport, 92km/h on the Fleurieu Peninsula and 61km/h at Outer Harbor. The front has brought little rain.

A severe weather warning has been issued for Adelaide and thunderstorms, which could produce more damaging wind gusts, are expected in the Flinders district.

Showers and gusty winds expected are expected to peak in the next few hours before a gradual ease in the afternoon.
